Description

Albendazole 11.36% Liquid Solution for Camels

Albendazole 11.36% Oral Suspension (113.6 mg/mL) is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole dewormer used in camelids for treatment of susceptible internal parasites. When administered at accurate weight-based dosing, it helps reduce worm burdens that interfere with growth, energy levels, and overall herd productivity.

Camels metabolize certain medications differently from other livestock, so accurate dosing and veterinary guidance are essential.

What It’s Used For in Camels

Albendazole is used for the treatment of susceptible:

  • Gastrointestinal roundworms
  • Lungworms
  • Tapeworms
  • Adult liver flukes

It is typically administered when fecal testing or clinical signs indicate internal parasite infection.

Symptoms of Internal Parasites in Camels

Parasitic infections may present as:

  • Weight loss or poor growth
  • Lethargy or reduced stamina
  • Diarrhea or abnormal manure
  • Dull coat quality
  • Pale gums or inner eyelids (anemia)
  • Coughing or respiratory signs (lungworm involvement)

Reducing parasite load supports improved condition and herd performance.

Dosage and Administration

Active Ingredient Strength

Albendazole 11.36%
= 113.6 mg per mL

Standard Treatment Dose (Camels)

Camelids are commonly dosed at:

10 mg per kg of body weight
= 4.54 mg per lb

113.6 mg/mL concentration:

4.54 ÷ 113.6 = 0.04 mL per lb

Final Practical Dose:

Administer 0.04 mL per lb of body weight as a single oral dose.

Example Dosing Chart

Camel Weight Dose
200 lb 8 mL
300 lb 12 mL
400 lb 16 mL
600 lb 24 mL
800 lb 32 mL

Administer orally using a calibrated drench syringe.
Accurate body weight estimation is critical.

Dosage Frequency

  • A single oral dose is the standard treatment.
  • In heavy infestations, veterinary-guided repeat dosing (often 14–21 days later) may be considered based on fecal evaluation.
  • Routine blanket deworming without monitoring is not recommended due to resistance concerns.

Treatment Duration

Single administration per treatment cycle unless otherwise directed by a veterinarian.

Young & Breeding Camel Guidance

  • Use in young camels should be done under veterinary supervision to ensure accurate weight-based dosing.
  • Avoid use during early pregnancy unless specifically directed by a veterinarian.

Available Sizes

  • 4 oz – Individual camels or small herds
  • 8 oz – Moderate herd use

FAQs

How does Albendazole work in camels?

Albendazole interferes with parasite energy metabolism, reducing their ability to survive within the host.

How often should camels be dewormed?

Deworming frequency depends on parasite exposure and herd management. Strategic treatment based on fecal testing is recommended rather than fixed calendar dosing.

Is it safe for young camels?

Use in young animals should only be done under veterinary supervision to ensure proper dosing and safety.

Is it safe for pregnant camels?

Avoid use during early pregnancy unless directed by a veterinarian.

How soon will improvement be noticed?

Parasite metabolism disruption begins shortly after dosing. Visible improvement depends on infestation severity and overall health status.
